Denmark Gambling Authority Wins International Award for Safer Gambling Campaign.

Denmark’s Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has received international recognition for its campaign encouraging people affected by gambling-related harm to seek professional support.

The regulator’s StopSpillet campaign won the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) award for Safer Gambling Initiative or Communications Campaign.

The award was presented following a unanimous decision by the judging panel at the association’s annual conference in Lima, Peru.

StopSpillet Campaign Encourages People to Seek Help

Launched in autumn 2025, the campaign aimed to address delays in seeking help for gambling-related problems.

Spillemyndigheden highlighted that men aged between 30 and 40 can wait up to two and a half years after recognising a gambling problem before seeking professional support.

The campaign focused on reducing this delay. It also encouraged family members and friends to recognise warning signs and help affected individuals access professional assistance.

The results showed a positive response from audiences. According to the regulator, 7% of viewers took concrete steps after seeing the campaign. These included contacting StopSpillet or encouraging someone else to seek help.

Among men in the campaign’s target group, the figure reached one in ten.

StopSpillet Records Highest Monthly Call Volume

The campaign also contributed to increased demand for support through StopSpillet’s helpline.

In October 2025, the service received 108 calls. This was its highest monthly total since its launch in 2019.

The regulator also reported that enquiries increased by between 50% and 63% during the campaign compared with the same period a year earlier.

Spillemyndigheden Highlights Campaign Impact

Anders Dorph, Director of Spillemyndigheden, said successful awareness campaigns require more than delivering the right message.

He explained that reaching audiences through platforms they regularly use was central to the campaign’s strategy.

Dorph also highlighted the importance of breaking through information barriers and encouraging people to take action.

He expressed satisfaction with the results, particularly the number of people who reached out for professional support after seeing the campaign.

Campaign Reached Millions Across Digital Platforms

The StopSpillet campaign used several communication channels, including television films, social media, podcasts, radio and Reddit.

It also involved a collaboration with Divisionsforeningen.

According to Spillemyndigheden, the campaign generated 57.4 million digital views and nearly 25,000 clicks on its content.

The IAGR judges recognised the initiative for its empathetic approach, efforts to reduce stigma and success in encouraging more people to seek support.

This marks the third time Spillemyndigheden has received an IAGR award.

The regulator was recognised in 2024 for its campaign examining young people’s exposure to gambling. In 2025, it received another award for its presentations at youth education institutions.

StopSpillet continues to offer free, confidential and anonymous counselling to people experiencing gambling problems and their relatives.
