bet365 Stumbles Again During the Champions League.

On Tuesday evening, bet365 customers reported problems accessing their accounts and managing bets as UEFA Champions League matches were underway. The bookmaker acknowledged technical issues on its customer support account on X, apologized and said its technical team was working to restore service.

The disruption came at a difficult moment. bet365 has been an official global Champions League sponsor since 2024, the first sports betting brand to take on that role. Yet, ahead of seven matches kicking off at 21:00 CEST, some customers were unable to use the app.

Users report access and betting issues

Outage trackers, which compile user reports rather than data supplied by bet365, began recording complaints shortly before kickoff. Outage. Report logged its first reports at 18:38 UTC (20:38 across much of continental Europe), with reports peaking at 18:50 UTC ten minutes before the matches began. All reports on the site came from the UK, and most users said the service was not working.

Status Gator logged a separate user-reported incident under the title “Bet builder and football match pages not loading in app”. It reported issues across Europe but did not specify the countries affected, adding that the disruption lasted for some time.
There was plenty happening on the pitch. Inter lost 4-3 at home to Club Brugge, Norway’s Viking drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich, Barcelona beat Galatasaray 4-1 and Atlético Madrid defeated Manchester United 2-0. Arsenal, Villarreal and RB Leipzig also won.
During matches, customers often rely on in-play markets, bet builders and cash out the very features most affected when an app stops responding.

bet365 has not explained the cause

So far, bet365’s public response has been limited to its help-account post acknowledging technical problems and apologizing. The company has not said what caused the disruption, how long it lasted, which countries were affected or how it will handle bets placed or interrupted during the outage. Meanwhile, bet365’s own status page continued to show the service as operational. Status Gator also listed no official acknowledgment of the user-reported incidents.

A high-profile moment for the sponsor

bet365 signed a three-year UEFA sponsorship deal in August 2024, covering the 2024–27 commercial cycle. The agreement includes perimeter LED advertising in stadiums, branding on media backdrops and promotion across the competition’s digital channels.
“As the first sports betting brand to sponsor the UEFA Champions League, we’re delighted to be joining,” global chief marketing officer Alex Sefton said at the time. Champions League fixtures are among the most prominent moments in bet365’s calendar. Fans see its branding around the pitch while using their phones to place bets. When the app falters during a match, the problem reaches the same audience the sponsorship is designed to engage.

Some betting opportunities are also time-sensitive. A pre-match wager may still be available later, but a 70th-minute goalscorer bet, a bet builder before kickoff or a cash out while a team is leading may not be.

Previous complaints

Tuesday’s reports recall complaints from January 2025, when customers said the cash-out option disappeared from their Champions League bets on 29 January, the final night of that season’s league phase. Some said the results turned against them before they could settle their bets.

The incident also comes as bet365 continues to invest in its product. Revenue rose 9% to £4bn in the year to March 2025, with sports betting up 5% and casino revenue up 25%. Pre-tax profit, however, fell to £349m from £596m, as the company invested in areas including its app and bet builder.
