Regulatory Action Prompts Holland Casino and VBET to Remove Self-Goal Wagers

The Gaming Authority (KSA) has recently contacted Holland Casino Online and Vbet regarding their practice of accepting bets on their own goals. According to the regulator’s report, such bets are considered problematic due to their association with increased match-fixing risk and their potential to undermine sports integrity. Consequently, the KSA and other national authorities regard betting on the number of own goals in football matches as harmful.

In accordance with the regulator’s guidance, the KSA categorizes bets on own goals, time penalties, Formula One retirements, red flags in racing, and player injuries as “negative or easily manipulated events.” Both Holland Casino Online and VBET have confirmed the removal of own goal bets from their platforms following the regulator’s instructions. The regulator stated, “The KSA has addressed both providers regarding this matter.” These bets have now been eliminated by both operators.

To prevent future occurrences, the KSA has implemented additional control measures. The regulator considers this step as an effective resolution for the time being. To uphold sports integrity and prevent match manipulation, the KSA continues to scrutinize which bet types should be permitted, especially in high-risk sports like football and tennis, as highlighted in recent IBIA reports.

The regulator’s actions are also part of ongoing political debates in the Netherlands, where the re-regulation under the KOA Act in October 2024 has not alleviated concerns. Despite strict advertising restrictions introduced in 2024, opposition parties have called for a complete ban on gambling advertising, citing societal impacts and the need for stricter regulation.
