Playtech Announces Strategic Exit from Happybet Operations in Germany

Playtech PLC has formalized an agreement to divest its Happybet division to cease its online and retail betting activities within Germany. Playtech

The company, a prominent provider of gambling software solutions, previously closed its Austrian Happybet operations in late 2024. In March of this year, Playtech initiated proceedings to sell its remaining German assets associated with the Happybet brand.

This strategic move aligns with Playtech’s broader objective to concentrate on its core competency as a predominantly B2B enterprise, streamlining its operations to enhance focus and efficiency.

The transaction has been finalized with NetX Betting Ltd, a subsidiary of the Frankfurt-listed betting group pferdewetten.de AG. As part of the agreement, pferdewetten.de will acquire certain franchise agreements linked to Happybet retail outlets across Germany. Playtech Happybet exit Germany

The transition period will facilitate negotiations between pferdewetten.de and franchise partners, alongside the necessary regulatory approvals from German authorities. Any remaining assets of Happybet not transferred or assumed by pferdewetten.de are expected to be phased out or wound down accordingly.

Following the announcement, Playtech’s shares declined marginally by 0.8%, closing at 319.85 pence on the London Stock Exchange.

This transaction follows Playtech’s recent sale of Snaitech Spa to Flutter Entertainment PLC for EUR2.30 billion, completed at the end of April. The company stated that the proceeds from this sale will bolster its strategic focus on delivering innovative, technology-driven solutions within high-growth B2B gambling markets.
