{"id":15096,"date":"2024-05-24T11:32:52","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T08:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igamingafrika.com\/?p=15096"},"modified":"2024-05-24T11:32:52","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T08:32:52","slug":"hollywoodbets-launches-an-internet-service-provider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igamingeuropa.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/24\/hollywoodbets-launches-an-internet-service-provider\/","title":{"rendered":"Hollywoodbets Launches an Internet Service provider!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hollywoodbets has launched an Internet service provider in South Africa called Hollywood Connect, and has applied to the country\u2019s telecommunications regulator to acquire two network licenses.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hollywood Connect has applied for the transfer of ownership of Individual Electronic Communications Service (I-ECS) and Individual Electronic Communications Network Service (I-ECNS) licences belonging to East Coast Access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These licences will&nbsp;allow Hollywood Connect to offer nationwide Internet services and roll out its own physical network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Independent Communications Association of South Africa (Icasa) published a notice of the ISP\u2019s application in the&nbsp;Government Gazette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An I-ECS licence lets holders offer Internet services over their own or another company\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read Also: <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingafrika.com\/brazil-government-sets-december-deadline-for-gaming-license-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brazil Government Sets December Deadline for Gaming License Applications!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The I-ECNS licence, on the other hand, allows an entity to roll out and operate its own physical network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individual licences are required to build networks or offer services provincially and nationally. The alternative, class licences, are limited to a local or district municipal scope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/hollywoodbets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hollywood Connect<\/a> is currently only available in areas across Durban \u2014 which is also where Immedia Ecosystem is based.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The acquisition of these licences suggests Hollywood Connect plans to roll out its infrastructure and offer internet services nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individual licenses are in high demand and extremely difficult to obtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I-ECNS licenses, in particular, may only be issued if the Minister of Communications publishes a policy directive allowing Icasa to issue an invitation to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the only way to obtain such a license is for organizations to acquire one second-hand. According to the ISP\u2019s Association of South African, these can often cost more than R1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even state-owned network operator Broadband Infraco&nbsp;had to go out to tender for an I-ECS license&nbsp;because Icasa has not issued new ones since 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Border Gateway Protocol&nbsp;query&nbsp;showed that the Hollywoodbets\u2019 autonomous system currently advertises 2,042 IP addresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Querying the Afrinic Who is database confirmed that these are all the addresses currently assigned to Hollywoodbets\u2019 organization. <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Hollywoodbets Internet Service Provider<\/mark><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hollywoodbets has launched an Internet service provider in South Africa called Hollywood Connect, and has applied to the country\u2019s telecommunications regulator to acquire two network licenses.
