Danish Gambling Industry Sees Robust Growth in April Driven by Online Casinos

Despite a persistent decline in land-based gambling venues, Denmark’s gambling industry demonstrated notable growth in April 2025. The total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for the month reached DKK 665 million (approximately USD 103 million), marking an 11.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

This uplift was primarily driven by a significant surge in online casino activity, which saw a 21.2% rise to DKK 331 million. Meanwhile, land-based casinos maintained steady revenues at DKK 31 million, the same as in April 2024. Gaming machines, however, experienced a slight decrease of 4.1%, generating DKK 93 million. Betting revenue experienced modest growth, increasing by 6.2% to DKK 207 million. Notably, land-based bingo made its debut in the gambling landscape, generating DKK 3 million in turnover. A closer look at betting patterns reveals that mobile devices dominate player activity, accounting for 70.6% of bets, with computers contributing 21% and land-based bookmakers just 9.1%. Although weekends—particularly Saturday and Sunday—continue to attract the highest stakes, Tuesdays emerged as the third most active day for gambling activity in April.

On a cumulative basis, the industry’s performance for the year so far has been impressive, with total GGR reaching DKK 2.53 billion. Online casinos account for over half of this figure, at 50.3%. An increasing preference for mobile platforms is evident, as 67.9% of online casino activity now occurs via mobile devices, compared to 59% in 2024. Desktop usage has correspondingly decreased, reflecting a broader industry trend towards mobile gaming. Tuesdays remain the busiest day for online casino engagement, closely followed by Wednesdays, while gaming machines are most active on Tuesdays.

In terms of responsible gambling efforts, the self-exclusion register, Rofus, recorded 60,325 registrations by April 2025. Additionally, there were 50 interactions related to StopSpillet, Denmark’s initiative aimed at promoting responsible gambling behavior. The Danish Gambling Authority has also taken proactive steps to combat illegal gambling content by partnering with Twitch. This initiative complements ongoing collaborations with major technology companies such as Apple, Google, and Facebook, all aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining integrity within the industry.
