Somalia Bans Tiktok, Telegram and 1xBet in the country

Somali government has issued bans on popular social media platform Tiktok, messaging app Telegram, and online betting website 1XBet in an effort to stop the transmission of unpleasant content and false information. Tiktok Telegram 1xBet somalia

The move, announced by the nation’s Minister of Communications, Jama Hassan Khalif, intends to stop terrorist organizations and “immoral” organizations from using these platforms to spread harmful pictures and untrue information to the general population.

The minister of communications orders internet companies to stop the aforementioned applications, which terrorists and immoral groups use to spread constant horrific images and misinformation to the public.

Al Shabaab, a terrorist organization well-known for its operations in the area, has a history of using social media sites like TikTok and Telegram to further its goal and disseminate information about its activities. The restriction on these platforms aims to curtail the group’s influence and lessen the effect of its propaganda.

This decision was made a few days after Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared that a military effort against al Shabaab that intends to destroy the al Qaeda-affiliated group in the next five months.

One can assert that the prohibition on 1XBet is due to Somalia’s current prohibition on gambling. Casinos, lotteries, and betting on sports are all considered forms of gambling under Sharia law.

There have been no formal comments about the ban from TikTok, Telegram, or 1XBet representatives as of yet. Internet service providers now have a limited window of time to take the necessary action after the government ordered them to comply with the order by August 24.
