Flutter Plans Up to 1,400 Job Cuts in UK and Ireland Restructuring.

Flutter Entertainment plans to restructure its UK and Ireland operations, a move that could result in up to 1,400 redundancies. The company says the changes are a response to higher UK gaming taxes announced in last year’s Autumn Budget.

Remote Gaming Duty is set to rise to 40 per cent from April 2026, nearly double its previous rate. General betting duty on online betting, excluding horse racing, will increase to 25 per cent from April 2027. Flutter estimates that changes to UK iGaming taxes will reduce adjusted EBITDA by $540 million in 2027. It expects to offset $201 million of that impact through first-order mitigation measures.

Proposed cuts could affect several locations

The proposed restructuring is subject to consultation. The potential job cuts represent around 16 per cent of the 9,000 people employed in Flutter’s UK and Ireland business. Employees in several locations could be affected, including Leeds and Dublin. Also UK and Ireland staff based at Flutter hubs in Porto, Portugal, and Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Flutter UK & Ireland chief executive Kevin Harrington said the company’s immediate priority was supporting affected employees:
“My immediate focus is providing the necessary support for all of our impacted colleagues. And guiding our teams through what we know is going to be a difficult and challenging period for all concerned,” said Flutter UK & Ireland chief executive Kevin Harrington. “The material increase in betting and gaming duties announced in the UK Budget last year has fundamentally changed the economic model of the regulated betting and gaming industry in the UK while helping to fuel the unlicensed, unregulated market.

“As we warned a year ago, we cannot fully absorb a rise of this magnitude without reducing our fixed cost base. And therefore must restructure our business so that we can best position ourselves for the future. We remain confident that we are well placed to benefit from share gains given our position as the largest scale operator in the UK.”

Flutter said the restructuring is also intended to generate longer-term, second-order savings while protecting investment in its customer proposition.

The company expects implementation costs of between $80 million and $90 million. These costs were included in the updated guidance provided with Flutter’s second-quarter earnings update. They are expected to be incurred in the final quarter of 2026.
Flutter employs 28,500 people worldwide, including 9,000 in its UK and Ireland business.
