LaLiga Pioneers as the First European Football League to Join Forces with Polymarket

LaLiga North America has officially teamed up with US-based prediction platform Polymarket in a multi-year agreement. This marks a groundbreaking milestone, as it is the first time a major European football league has partnered with a prediction market operator as an official regional partner. Announced last Thursday, the deal grants Polymarket exclusive rights to oversee prediction market activities related to LaLiga across the United States and Canada. The collaboration not only opens new avenues for fan engagement but also integrates prediction markets into the league’s regional marketing strategy.
Polymarket will benefit from broadcast exposure and digital media opportunities, alongside rights to utilize LaLiga and its clubs’ intellectual property tied to fixtures and competitions. Fans can look forward to special experiences, such as VIP match hospitality and virtual meet-and-greets with former players, amplifying their connection to the league.
LaLiga North America has been actively expanding its presence since 2018 through a 20-year joint venture with Relevent, which manages the league’s strategic growth in North America. The league’s regional sponsorship portfolio already includes household names like Walmart, McDonald’s, and Verizon. The addition of Polymarket introduces a fresh, engagement-driven product that complements existing partnerships with a betting-adjacent twist.
Shayne Coplan, Polymarket’s founder and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “Our goal is to give fans a more expressive way to follow the game, where opinions on players, matches, and season outcomes can be reflected in real time.” He added, “Partnering with LaLiga brings that level of interaction to one of the most passionate global fanbases and introduces a new, more dynamic way for North American audiences to engage with the league.”

This LaLiga alliance is part of a broader strategy for Polymarket’s expansion in American sports. In October, the National Hockey League became the first major US sport to partner with prediction markets when it named Polymarket and competitor Kalshi as official prediction market partners. The momentum continued in November when the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) signed a deal with Polymarket. Just a few months later, in March, Major League Baseball (MLB) also announced Polymarket as its official prediction market partner, highlighting the platform’s rising influence in the sports industry.
