Dr. Kobby Boateng Discusses Regulatory Changes and Growth Prospects in Ghana’s Sports Betting Market

Dr. Kobby Boateng, the president of the Ghana Association of Betting Operators (Gazbo), provided key insights into the evolving landscape of the sports betting industry in Ghana during a recent interview.

With a focus on regulatory changes, challenges faced by operators, and the future of investment in the market, Boateng outlined both the current dynamics and upcoming opportunities.

“The regulatory environment in Ghana is becoming increasingly stringent with more emphasis on compliance and taxation,” Dr. Boateng stated. He emphasized Gazbo’s role in shaping these regulations, saying, “We as Gazbo have played a very crucial role in shaping these regulations by engaging with the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Gaming Commission to advocate for fair policies and support industrial growth.”

He highlighted the association’s leadership in transitioning to a more defined taxation system, noting, “In fairness, we’ve come out to implement it right.”

When discussing the complexities that operators face, Boateng pointed out the main challenges: “Operators face challenges such as navigating these complex tax issues… Setting up their systems to manage these taxes has always been a challenge for us.”

He also mentioned the association’s efforts in promoting responsible gambling initiatives, stating, “We are creating the facility and environment where investors can come in here confidently knowing that we have a proper system in place.”

In concluding his thoughts, Dr. Boateng invited potential investors to connect directly with Gazbo for guidance and resources. “Any time any investor or anyone interested in the market wants to come to Ghana… we have a lot of information, we have a lot of research done on the market, and we can provide them with it,” he assured.
