£3.3m Fine Forces TGP Europe Out of UK Gambling Scene
TGP Europe has withdrawn from the UK gambling market following a £3.3 million fine from the UK Gambling Commission, which also demanded significant compliance improvements. The company, previously operating white label sites for football club sponsors, surrendered its licence due to persistent anti-money laundering (AML) failures and inadequate due diligence. This follows a £316,250 fine in 2023 for similar issues in its business-to-business and white label operations.
The Gambling Commission identified multiple shortcomings in TGP Europe’s practices, including failure to conduct proper due diligence on third-party partners, assess money laundering risks, or verify fund sources. The company’s AML policies were ineffective, particularly in implementing enhanced due diligence, and it did not address illegal activities tied to its white label sites in Great Britain or abroad.
The exit impacts sponsorship deals with Premier League and Championship clubs like AFC Bournemouth, Fulham, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Burnley, now associated with unlicensed gambling operators. The Commission has directed these clubs to submit proof of due diligence on partners and effective geo-blocking to block UK access to these sites, ensuring VPNs cannot circumvent restrictions. Non-compliance may lead to prosecution of club officials.

John Pierce, Head of Enforcement at the Commission, stated: “This case involves a gambling company that was unwilling or unable to meet the regulatory standards we expect from our licensees. It is right that they have now exited the British market.” He added that ongoing, unannounced checks will ensure these sites remain inaccessible, noting: “It is essential that football clubs play their part in protecting fans and GB consumers who may be exposed to advertising of these sites through their sponsorship arrangements from harm or exploitation.”
Consumers are encouraged to check the Gambling Commission’s register to confirm a site’s licensing status. The Commission warned other operators with white label setups to take note of this enforcement. Affected customers will find instructions on operator websites for retrieving remaining funds.
